Woody Frames: Lookmatic Glasses Review

Hello my field daisies!

So I’ve been meaning to do this for a while, but I’ve just now gotten around to doing a photoshoot with these things.

I love my Lookmatic glasses. I chose the Woody frames in tortoise. They fit my face perfectly. They came with a chic black rectangle box and a grey cleaning cloth.

I suppose the best way for me to review them is to tell the story of how I got them.

These were my old glasses. They weren’t bad, but I rarely wore them out because I didn’t feel like I looked good in them. They were metal and heavy with rhinestone hearts at the corners. Something a twelve year old would wear. Needless to say I was glad when one of the lenses cracked, and I was forced to buy a new pair.

I decided to go for something lighter (plastic) and something that would fit my face (big and square). And lo and behold that something turned out to be hipster glasses.

Oh the horror of being a hipster… Hipster glasses are “the thing you put on something to turn it into a hipster” (wise words of charlieissocoollike). I mean I like boutique coffee shops, so I’m just going to face it. I’m kind of a hipster. Not in a sense that I am pretentious and only like things others don’t, but outwardly and style wise, yes.

Charlie McDonnell also talks about how there might be a little hipster in all of us, something I also agree with. I talk about it in my post about Lorde’s marketing strategy, calling it the  “hipster approach.”  Of course now her marketing strategy is very un-hipster-like. When I wrote that post she hadn’t even released her album. I suppose the thing about the hipster approach is that producers eventually want it to become the mainstream approach, which is complete and utter saturation.

Anyway back to the glasses.

You know what they say about girls with big faces… They need wide glasses.

At first I was certain I was going to get a pair of Warby Parker glasses. Mostly because Tyler Oakley advocated for them so much.

So yeah I think I went through 3 boxes of their free home trials, and still I couldn’t find a pair that fit my face. 15 glasses!

Then I discovered Lookmatic through Keiko Lynn. In her post, she talked about how Lookmatic was giving away a pair of free glasses and an iPad air. Of course I didn’t win, but Lookmatic was also doing a Valentine’s Day sale and along with my email sign up discount, I ended up getting a $95 dollar pair for $55 dollars.

That’s the thing about Lookmatic is that they have flash sales ALL THE TIME. So just sign up for their email and wait. I promise you’ll get a good deal.

Because I wanted to get a pair of glasses before the sale was over, I couldn’t get a box of free home trials. But Lookmatic gives you the measurements for all their glasswear, something Warby Parker neglects to do. So I measured my face and bought the widest pair of glasses they had and hoped for the best.

The glasses turned out perfectly, expect I typed my prescription wrong. But no worries. I contacted their customer service, sent my box back with free shipping and got my correct prescription with no charges.

So the bottom line is, Warby Parker may have a better variety than Lookmatic, but Lookmatic has great deals and the best customer service. Warby Parker also doesn’t make very wide frames. Even their larges didn’t fit me. If I had to choose again, I would have gone to Lookmatic first and saved me the weeks of trying on Warby Parker glasses.

As you know, I am the world’s nitpicky-est shopper. It takes me forever to make a decision when it comes to pricey things. My headphone journey is a testament to my need to do extensive research before buying something.

I hope this review will help you with your glasses purchases. Not the most conventional review, but I feel like the story makes a more convincing argument.

Love ya’ll and thanks for reading!

Hope you have a daisyish day!
