Hello my field daises!

Troye Sivan, one of my favorite YouTubers released his new single, Happy Little Pill, and the whole Internet is going crazy. If you haven’t had a chance to listen, see for yourself.

Right? Isn’t it so good? Happy Little Pill has gotten all sorts of media coverage, from the grassroots such as myself all the way up to Adam Lambert, who tweeted this to Troye:

Troye also made it into The Sydney Morning Herald, and you can read that here.

When I first heard Happy Little Pill , I was taken aback. I was used to sweet little Troye singing live acoustic in his bedroom.

Can you believe this bashful little Aussie produced such a smashing hit?

Happy Little Pill sounds nothing like his bedroom cover sessions. The added electronic beat is feverishly addicting, starting out low and ominous, turning into smooth, cool and head bobbing. The instrumentals are what make the song. Troye plays around a lot with electronic notes and has created a sound that is uniquely his. The lyrics are also well thought out, poetic genius in my opinion.

For all those who don’t know YouTube culture, Tyler Oakley is the queen of YouTube, with close to 5 million subscribers and selfies with all of Hollywood.

His latest is with the lead singer of the Vamps, Bradley Simpson. Swoon.

#Troyler is like it sounds, Troye and Tyler’s name combined for an OTP, one true pair.

Now these two aren’t dating, but the entire Internet wants them to be, myself included. If you want to feel the intensity of #Troyler watch the video below. They decided to look at the #Troyler tag on Tumblr.

And for those who don’t use Tumblr… One. What? Seriously? Two. It’s basically where the Internet lives. This is the hub central of fan fiction, gifs and Photoshop.

Am I the only who feels like they have chemistry on screen? Sigh in interviews they have made it clear though. They are just friends.

(or maybe they are secretly dating who knows….)

Today The Holy Trinity (Mamrie, Hannah and Grace) did a review of Happy Little Pill, which inspired me to do a little blog post. Their antics are as usual utterly hilarious,

For example, now when I listen to HLP I think birth control, pirates, and Troye’s ex. (Just watch the video)

Cocaine dollar bills…

But all jokes aside some of the stuff really resonated with me. Mainly the end where Mamrie says, “There is nothing worse than having a friend make something that you don’t like and you have to pretend to like, but I don’t have to pretend to like this because I genuinely rocked out to this drunk on a plane.”

In all honesty, if Troye released Happy Little Pill and it sounded like his cover of “Kiss Me,” I would still be extremely proud of him. I mean Camp Takota was no Quentin Tarantino movie, but I still loved it because it had the Holy Trinity in it. It was cute and I was so proud that a drunk bartender, drunk cook and drunk comedian could join together to make such a feel good, albeit slightly cliche, camp movie. Haha the drunk thing is a joke. If you’ve seen You Deserve a Drink or My Drunk Kitchen or ItsGrace or HeyUSA you’ll know what I’m talking about. But seriously go watch Camp Takota if you haven’t already.  It was their first movie, and it just amazes me the content that YouTubers are producing. That’s the beauty of the YouTube culture.

With YouTubers, you see content from them on a daily basis. These vlogs make you feel as if you know these people. It’s close and personal, most shot in the comforts of their homes. Vlogs encompass so much more than just talking to a camera in your bedroom. There are skits, tags, challenges, etc. Draw my life videos especially give you so much information.

When these YouTubers go and do amazing things such as Troye and his new EP, Trxye (comes out Aug 15th), or Shane Dawson and his movie Not Cool (comes out Nov 2014) or Dan and Phil on BBC Radio 1 (Currently employed) or HANK GREEN AND THE FAULT IN OUR STARS (if you haven’t heard of this you live under a rock)  you feel as if your best friends just got famous.

Happy Little Pill soared into popularity not only because it is awesome, but also because we as long watchers of Troye on YouTube, love him and will support him through all his new ventures.

Some may call it blind devotion, and many marketers dream of this kind of loyalty. Of course if he went and decided to be a part of a drug cartel (who knows he does sing about cocaine… jk) I probably wouldn’t be on board, but you guys get my drift.

The world is changing. I always think of Bob Dylan’s Times They Are A-Changin when I say this. If he was singing about it in the 80s it must mean the world is constantly a changing, but I digress. Nowadays the change is that it has now become a start up, do it yourself kind of culture. For example, here is some wise words from George Larkin, creator of the FB group Berkeley Film Friends. He is basically like the Yoda of the film industry:

“I was talking with a manager I know in Los Angeles, someone whose judgement I respect. He said it is so hard to get staffed on a tv show as a new writer that it’s actually easier to write your own original pilot and sell that with you attached. That being said, if you do want to write for tv, I would still have two specs written for existing shows. Then all your bases are covered. Just so you know, this is the exact opposite wisdom from 5 years ago, when it was viewed as arrogant and foolish for new writers to script their own original pilots. Hollywood conventional wisdom is both absolute and ever changing.”

The Internet has to do a lot with this change. People now expect you gain fans first and then the record deal second. A lot of people have no idea who any of these YouTubers are. But the select few who do… You all get where I am coming from. And as you reading this, you are sitting with a smug smile, because as Troye Sivan soars to Katy Perry status, you can be the one to say, I heard him first.

Love ya’ll and thanks for reading!

Hope you have a daisyish day!
