Movie Review and Extras: Trainwreck

Hello my field daisies!

Me and a bunch of girlfriends went to watch Trainwreck last night.

Shoutout to Nicole, Masha, Chelsea and Paloma! You all are the best. Haha thanks for teaching me how to split an uber 😉

Maybe because it was opening night, but there was a major influx of people going to see this movie. We tried to see the 7:10 showing, but it was sold out. So we decided to go across town to another movie theater to see if we could make their 7:30 showing. When we got there, the theater was packed. The lines were ridiculously long and of course when it was our turn to pay, the movie was sold out. So we bought the 9:35 ticket and decided to go eat to kill the time. It ended up being a great evening full of wonderful conversations and lots of laughter.

I agree with Rotten Tomatoes. The movie is a healthy B+, with great jokes and character development. However the storyline fell a bit flat, and cinematically the movie lacked depth.

My boyfriend showed me this video and it forever changed my perspective on comedies. Most comedies today are just over the shoulder shots. One character says something and then it flips back to the other character and he or she says something. It doesn’t utilize the camera at all.

But that being said, I still loved Trainwreck, and I would recommend seeing it. I think both a lot of different demographics will enjoy it, so take your boyfriend ladies!

I think what makes Trainwreck comedic gold is the reversal of gender roles.

My favorite character in the film was Lebron James. He played Aaron’s (Bill Hader) best friend. Their relationship is so girly it’s awesome. My favorite part of the movie was the Cleveland joke.

I didn’t think I was going to like Lebron in Trainwreck. I mean I definitely didn’t enjoy him during the NBA Finals. But I guess that’s because I was going for the Warriors. Hell yeah.

Another one of my favorite side characters was Randall Park. ANY FOB FANS WHAT UP? GO LOUIS!

So I don’t know if anyone else noticed this, but the lots of the moments in the trailers and clips advertised are not in the movie at all. After watching some interviews, I realized a lot of the movie was improv.

John Cena did a hilariously, wonderful job. Amy didn’t even write most of his lines.

In fact, Amy said she wrote about 300 pages for Trainwreck instead of the typical Hollywood 120. I think that is what makes the movie so special. In Amy’s words to Ellen Degeneres, “Of course it’s about me. Trainwreck.”

She also gives many thanks Brie Larson, who plays her sister in Trainwreck but also was the producer and helped her revise the script. Brie was exceptionally good in this movie. As the “good” sister who got married and is now pregnant, she was the balance this movie needed.

But I think the many hands helping Amy with Trainwreck ended up hurting the movie.

Now I don’t mean Brie or Jud personally, so don’t start throwing stones. Hear me out. This is just me going off the record.

I don’t think the final cut of the movie was the best one. I would like to see a writer’s cut and really get an Amy Schumer movie. I watched the movie first and then the trailers, so it is plain to see there were a lot of changes made.

I mean did this scene even happen?! When did Aaron steal a horse?! That’s one scene I would have liked to see play out. I feel like the first half of the movie was funnier, and by the second half the movie sort of lost momentum.

But all in all, I really enjoyed the flick. It was heart warming, yet not too cheesy. I really do hope it gets a sequel. These characters deserve an extended life, and the actors deserve a little extra cash flow.

Love ya’ll and thanks for reading!

Hope you have a daisyish day!
