One Way Train
By Daisy Dai
I was told love was non-linear
full of odd tangents
cruel twists and missed turns
Reroutes and mistakes
Routine heartbreaks
Thousands of
tearful goodbyes before
finally finding
“the one”
Love is a line that quivers and shakes
struggling to remain straight like a
fishing pole frantically
wriggling as you fail to
reel your catch in
I wish I was in possession
of an arrow straight enough to make my
hand steady as I shot my shot
smiling with satisfaction as I see it steer
smack dab into the apple of your eyeFinally boarding that one-way train
your hand warming mine as we sit and
watch the scenes of life go by
blissfully bound to happily ever after
